Canada Day is this week — Happy Canada Day! This week’s employee spotlight features one of our Canada-based engineers, Sandesh Meghnath. Sandesh is a QA engineer based in Ottawa.
“I was born in South Africa but raised in Canada. Growing up in Canada was a wonderful experience, and one of the things I enjoyed most about it was the level of multiculturalism and how you get to meet people from many different backgrounds. Everyone celebrates their own culture and is happy to share it with you, but we also all come together to celebrate events like Canada Day. Mississauga has a large immigrant community that my own family is a part of, so I understand how difficult and expensive sending money home can be. My personal experiences make me appreciate the work we’re doing here at Sendwave.”
“I’ve always been interested in technology, ever since high school. My degree is in computer engineering, and I’ve been working as a software developer since graduation. My current role focuses on ensuring our product always works the way it’s supposed to. We’re using behavioral-driven development to make writing tests easier and steps more reusable for quicker development. Sendwave had never had a designated QA engineer, so before I got here, tests were done informally. I established a procedure within the growth and engagement team for pre-release testing and despite it being a big shift, the team has been very receptive to my feedback. Our hope is to eventually have a QA person on each team, and use what we learned here as a pilot for the rest of the company.”
“Outside of work, I really enjoy music — writing, producing and performing original compositions. I’ve been playing instruments since middle school and started recording 6–7 years ago. I’m actually signed to a local record label and released by first EP of instrumental music this year! My favorite app (besides ours ☺️) is Reverb — it’s a marketplace for used music gear, and I’m always looking for a good deal. Diving deeper into music coincided with having so much time at home due to COVID, and I’ve enjoyed the creative outlet.”
If you’re interested in joining a global team (with 30 Canadian team members and counting!), our engineering team is looking for an android engineer, backend engineer, and engineering manager at sendwave.com/careers.
